Football Player Gets DUI



The Nebraska safety Rickey Thenarse has been arrested for DUI. He was pulled over just hours after celebrating his graduation.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska safety Rickey Thenarse was cited for drunken driving hours after his graduation ceremony.

Lincoln Police Sgt. Jason Stille told the Lincoln Journal Star that Thenarse was in his vehicle stopped in the middle of a downtown street about 2 a.m. Sunday. The senior graduated Saturday.

Police reports say Thenarse’s blood alcohol content was .11 percent; the legal limit is .08.

In addition to DUI, the football player was cited for driving with a suspended license and a traffic violation.

A message left Sunday for an athletic department spokesman wasn’t immediately returned.

Footballer Suspended After DUI Charge



In Nebraska, the starting defensive tackle has been suspended from the team and will not be allowed to play in the Holiday Bowl due to a DUI. The player was pulled over in Lincoln and found to have a .115 blood alcohol content.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska has suspended starting defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler for the Holiday Bowl because he was ticketed on suspicion of drunken driving.

Coach Bo Pelini said Wednesday that Steinkuhler won’t participate in the Dec. 30 game against Washington because of his mistake.

Police Capt. David Beggs says the 21-year-old Steinkuhler was stopped around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday because he was driving in downtown Lincoln without headlights and he failed to signal a turn. Police say Steinkuhler’s blood-alcohol content measured 0.115 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
